Downtown Miami is reinventing itself as a great place to live as well as work. Miami's business and finance district is located here but there are plenty of upscale high-rise condos springing up with some good deals to be had if you haggle. It boasts a central location with plenty of shopping, bars, restaurants and good transport links. For sports fans, the Miami Heat stadium is located here and culture vultures can catch the ballet or a spot of theatre at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Pros: Close to the beach, good public transport, plenty of shops and bars.
Cons: Lots of Cruise ship traffic at the weekends, full of suits during the week, still a bit deserted at the weekend.
